Why is james patterson famous

Indeed, Patterson is to publishing what Thomas Kinkade was to painting, or the television producer John Wells was to a series like E. He is not a tortured artist in a garret but rather presides over an atelier that produces mass popular entertainment on an astonishing scale.

Patterson today is busier than ever, in the midst of his current book contract, preparing to launch a TV series based on his thriller Zoo, and campaigning with personal appearances and his deep pockets in support of young-adult literacy and independent bookstores. He has also been outspoken, loudly and prominently, on the subject of the long dispute—settled in November—between Amazon and Hachette Book Group, in the course of which the online retailer had penalized Hachette writers.

Because Patterson is a Little, Brown author, many of his own books felt the pinch—they were often not in stock, or were unavailable for pre-order. Not surprisingly, his published output has drawn its share of detractors. Does that make him bad? No, I think it makes him smart. There have been blockbuster authors for years, from a smashing one-off such as Margaret Mitchell to perennial favorites such as Dean Koontz and Dan Brown. The Stratemeyer Syndicate deployed a battalion of ghostwriters to produce Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Bobbsey Twins stories for generations of readers.

But even his detractors agree that Patterson is in a class by himself. One secret to his success: outlines of up to 80 pages for each book, in which Patterson alone sketches virtually all the action in detail, in a brisk and breezy tone that mirrors the finished books. For the novels on which he works with co-authors some recruited from his days at J.

Walter Thompson, some recommended by other writers, one a former New York City doorman , Patterson sends his collaborator an outline, then revises the resulting manuscript multiple times.

We like them. A minute later the two engage in some terrific, earth-moving sex. It makes us feel great, horny, and envious. All around us are thick stacks of manuscripts in progress, each topped by a light-blue cover page.

Patterson has often collaborated with other writers and co-authored books with authors such as Maxine Paetro, Andrew Gross, and Peter De Jonge. James Patterson has also appeared on television as himself in several episodes of Castle and a show of The Simpsons. So, I mean, I understand that. And so I think he should be subject to those kind of same expectations and open to that same, you know, the same critical assessment as any other work of fiction is.

Like a piece of writing that perhaps just sent you over the edge? I mean, because the way — I was taking him apart so much that the worst bits of his writing always made for the funniest assessments by me, I thought. But, I mean, and, you know, Raymond Chandler. This is where everything started with crime fiction. James Crumley, Ken Bruen, those are kind of some more modern, I think, masters at it. But, you know, of course I would, as a bookseller, I would throw them for a loop probably and maybe give them some David Mitchell or Haruki Murakami, something like that just to see what would happen.

So, and he admits it. Eric is calling from San Diego. Good morning, Eric. Welcome to These Days. I was on a business trip. I wanted a quick read. I appreciate it. Like what it might say about the American reader? They can, like I say, they can read it during a commercial break. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, most recently sponsoring the school's annual holiday prism concert. The school is consistently ranked as one of the highest-performing public schools in the nation and sends more kids on to Juilliard than any other school in the country.

After-school reading programs are also in place at four Palm Beach County middle schools where up to 1, books have been donated. This imprint also provides resources, strategies, and programs to serve teachers, parents, librarians, and booksellers.

Patterson also founded ReadKiddoRead.
